Can I be a member of two chapters at one time?
No. At the time of the application, the member will select the appropriate chapter he/she wishes to join. This is usually based on where the person lives or works.
What is the process to transfer to/from another chapter?
How do I join InfraGard?
Please visit www.infragard.org and complete the application. Standardized checks such as criminal history, Driver’s License, and other database searches will be conducted as part of the process. See below for more details.
What happens after I apply?
The FBI will conduct routine checks which include criminal history, Driver’s License, U.S. citizen verification, and other database searches. If no derogatory information is found, AND the answer to the question on the application regarding arrests or charges is “No”, then the applicant can become a member once all checks are completed. (Approximately 2-3 weeks.) However, if there is any derogatory information found during the aforementioned checks, such as prior arrests, OR if the answer to the question on the application regarding arrests or charges is “yes”, then the FBI InfraGard coordinator will contact the applicant and conduct a short interview. The FBI coordinator will send a report based on the results of the interview to FBI Headquarters for a final decision. This could take several months for a decision to be rendered due to the volume of applications nationwide. (Members are encouraged to contact the InfraGard Coordinator if it has been 3 months and no decision has been rendered.) If an application is not approved, the applicant will receive a letter from FBI Headquarters. Please note that any failure to disclose any arrest can result in a denial of membership even if the record was expunged. It is imperative that the answer to the question on the application regarding arrests be answered, “yes”, if the applicant was previously arrested, even if expunged from the record. A failure to answer the question appropriately can result in a denial based on lack of candor.
My password for the InfraGard Portal (not this website) has expired, what do I do?
Please contact the help desk at (877) 861-6298 or InfraGardhelpdesk@leo.gov.
If I was arrested in the past, can I become a member?
Yes, depending on the circumstances. There are certain crimes which are automatic disqualifiers, but in general, the FBI InfraGard coordinator will contact the applicant once the application is submitted and will interview the applicant regarding the circumstances. Certain factors such as the seriousness of the crime, length of time elapsed since the incident, the applicant’s current status in the community, and other factors, will be taken into consideration. It is imperative, however, that applicants be candid during their interview as lack of candor can disqualify an applicant from joining.

The information is automatically sent to the FBI’s Cyber Division at the FBI Headquarters and reviewed to determine if there are any links to other investigations. The Cyber Division will then forward any leads to the appropriate FBI Division for further investigation if deemed appropriate. Members are encouraged to use the iGuardian tool for computer intrusion matters, and the IC3 icon for other Internet matters such as strictly fraud related crimes. It should be noted that anyone from the public can submit a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov.
